Coastal Flooding Strikes Maine and New Hampshire Again

Floodwaters inundated shoreline neighborhoods in New England for the fourth time since December, with coastal New Hampshire and southern Maine particularly affected. Dozens of homes were flooded in Hampton, N.H., and water levels reached 12.34 feet, just shy of the 13 feet recorded in January. Coastal road closures occurred around Boston, and reports of coastal flooding stretched as far south as Georgia. The storm, a result of two systems combining, caused heavy rains, high winds, and heavy snowfall in the interior Northeast. The frequency of flooding in Maine is attributed to human-caused climate change and rising sea levels, with NOAA projecting a significant increase in coastal flood days by 2050.
