"Massive Wildfire Engulfs California and Nevada, Threatening Residents and Landscapes"
TL;DR
A massive wildfire, known as the York fire, is rapidly spreading in California's Mojave national preserve, crossing the state line into Nevada and sending smoke into the Las Vegas Valley. The fire has burned over 110 square miles of desert scrub, juniper, and Joshua tree woodland, with zero containment. This comes as the US west faces a historic heatwave, with record-breaking temperatures in Phoenix and Las Vegas. Climate change-induced heatwaves have led to numerous deaths, disproportionately affecting the poorest Americans.
