Pinellas Implements Full Access Closure to Barrier Islands, Affecting Residents

Pinellas County has closed off access to all of its barrier islands, including residents, due to flooding caused by Hurricane Idalia. The closure is effective immediately and all bridges have been closed. Residents can leave the islands but cannot re-enter at this time. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office will reopen access when it is deemed safe. Videos posted on social media show significant flooding in St. Pete Beach, with several feet of water on Sunset Way.
