A line of intense storms caused widespread damage and flooding across the Chicago area, with nearly the entire region under severe weather warnings or watches. One person was killed and 28 injured when the roof of a theater collapsed. Powerful winds in Merrillville, Indiana uprooted trees, shattered windows, and ripped the roofs off homes. There are reports of more severe damage in central Indiana. As of 4:30 a.m. Saturday, over 29,000 customers are without power. Air travel was also affected, and several highways were closed due to overturned vehicles and downed power lines. The National Weather Service warned of a "particularly dangerous situation" with the potential for intense tornadoes to develop across Iowa and Illinois.
