The storm resulted in downed power lines and trees, with several areas severely impacted. Emergency responders closed intersections where power lines were down, and motorists navigated four-way intersections without stoplights. Researchers have found that increasing numbers of tornadoes have been striking the Midwest and Southeast lately, and fewer on the Great Plains, their historic regional hotbed.
