"Texas Wildfires: Evacuations, Massive Blaze, and Highway Closures"

Wildfires fueled by high winds and dry conditions have prompted evacuations and a disaster declaration in Texas, with the largest blaze, the Smokehouse Creek fire, burning at least 300,000 acres in the Texas Panhandle. In Oklahoma, residents of certain counties were also told to evacuate, while a wildfire near Amarillo prompted the closure of a plant that disassembles nuclear weapons. Unseasonably high temperatures and high winds have also led to wildfires in other parts of the Great Plains.
