Tragic Flash Flooding Claims Lives of Dogs at D.C. Canine Day Care

Flash flooding in Washington D.C. resulted in the deaths of several dogs at a canine day care center, while motorists were trapped beneath an underpass. Approximately 20 dogs were saved, but the exact number of casualties is unknown. The floodwaters rose swiftly, reaching about six feet at the facility's doors, causing the premises to flood. Firefighters also rescued occupants of stranded cars. The facility had previously experienced flooding, and a stormwater storage project intended to address the issue had not yet been completed.
