Conservative appeals court hears abortion pill case

A conservative federal appeals court in New Orleans is set to hear a case targeting the FDA's approval of the abortion pill mifepristone, which could disrupt its availability nationwide. The case was brought by a conservative legal organization on behalf of anti-abortion medical associations and physicians who argue that the FDA erred in approving the drug and failed to adequately consider its safety. The FDA has stressed that more than 5 million Americans have taken mifepristone to end their early pregnancies, and medication abortions account for more than half of all abortions in the U.S.
