Debt ceiling deal reached, but Congress remains broken.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy negotiated a deal with President Joe Biden to raise the nation's debt limit, but now must deliver the votes to pass the spending cuts package into law. McCarthy commands only a slim majority in the House and must reach out to Democrats to support the compromise. If he succeeds, it will be an accomplishment like nothing he has achieved before. However, if the compromise becomes so objectionable to the conservative flank that Republicans try to oust him from his job, he could lose it all.
