Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is running for the Republican nomination for president, attacked former President Donald Trump for following Dr. Anthony Fauci's guidance during the Covid pandemic. However, previously unreported quotes show that DeSantis praised Fauci's response in spring 2020, saying he was "really doing a good job" and deferring to his guidance on Covid-19 restrictions. DeSantis later broke with Fauci over reopening Florida in July 2020, but he didn't begin regularly criticizing Fauci until spring 2021.
