Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill banning public colleges in the state from using funds on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, claiming they promote "exclusion" and "discrimination." The law also prohibits general education courses from teaching "identity politics" or theories of systemic racism, sexism, oppression, and privilege. DeSantis recently replaced the board of trustees at the New College of Florida with conservatives who dissolved the university's DEI department. The move is expected to escalate tensions between DeSantis and the universities following last year's bill to limit tenure at public colleges.
