DSA charts path to a 2028 presidential bid

Democratic Socialists of America are launching a nationwide, member-led process to back a candidate in the 2028 Democratic presidential primaries. By summer they’ll survey all 250 chapters and collect 20–40 page dossiers on whom to back, with a formal endorsement possible at the 2027 convention. The effort follows recent DSA gains in New York City and elsewhere and centers on giving the movement a larger role in the race, with discussions involving figures like NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Senator Bernie Sanders, though Mamdani is constitutionally ineligible for the presidency. Any candidate would still have to win the support of DSA’s rank-and-file, signaling a potential shift in how the party addresses its base and agenda leading into 2028.
