Eric Garcetti confirmed as US ambassador to India, strengthening diplomatic ties.
TL;DR
The US Senate has confirmed Eric Garcetti, former mayor of Los Angeles, as the next US ambassador to India, filling a vacancy that lasted for 26 months, the longest in the history of US-Indian relations. India is seen as a key partner for the US in Asia, but the two countries have their differences, including India's ties with Russia. Garcetti's nomination was held up due to questions about his knowledge of sexual harassment allegations against one of his former advisors.
