Florida faces federal lawsuit over ban on gender-affirming care for trans youth

Four Florida families have filed a lawsuit against the state's ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth, which prohibits puberty blockers, hormones, cross-hormone therapy, and gender-affirming surgery for people under 18. The families fear for their children's mental and physical health, as some studies have shown gender-affirming care improves the mental health of transgender youth. The ban has been challenged by major national medical associations, but at least eight states have policies or laws that restrict gender-affirming care.
