Florida GOP approves DeSantis' sweeping anti-immigration bill

Florida Republicans passed a sweeping anti-immigration bill that will provide millions of dollars for a program used by Governor Ron DeSantis to fly migrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard. The bill requires medium-sized and large employers to use the federal E-Verify system to check the status of new employees, mandates hospitals to ask patients about their legal status, and prohibits an undocumented immigrant from driving a car even if they have a driver’s license from another state. The bill also sets aside $12 million for the DeSantis administration to transport migrants from outside the state to Democratic strongholds. Democrats criticized the bill as cruel and intimidating to migrants, while Republicans defended it as protecting American citizens.
