GOP bill would jail birth tourists to deter anchor babies after birthright ruling

A new House GOP bill would criminalize traveling to the U.S. to give birth by imposing 10-to-25-year prison terms on noncitizen parents and ordering their deportation, aiming to curb birth tourism even as the Supreme Court upheld birthright citizenship. Rep. Randy Fine argues the move would make such actions extremely unattractive, but critics say it would be punitive and ineffective while doing little to change the citizenship status of the child.
