Harlan Crow Defies Congress in Clarence Thomas Inquiry

Billionaire Harlan Crow, who has been accused of giving lavish gifts to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, has told Congress that it does not have the authority to investigate his personal friendship with Thomas. Crow's attorneys sent a seven-page letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee arguing that it had not identified a valid legislative purpose for its investigation. However, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin has rejected this argument, stating that the Supreme Court can be investigated. Crow can still be subpoenaed if he continues to refuse to answer questions.
