Indiana Governor Signs Bill Banning Gender-Affirming Care for Minors

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has signed a bill into law that bans gender-affirming care for minors, including hormone replacement therapies, puberty blockers, and surgeries. The ban will take effect on July 1, and trans youth currently taking medication to transition will have until the end of the year to stop doing so. The bill won approval by wide margins in both the House and Senate, but the American Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU of Indiana have filed a lawsuit challenging the ban, alleging that it violates the U.S. Constitution and federal requirements of the Medicaid Act and the Affordable Care Act.
