Preliminary findings have raised serious questions about why the family was held for so long, and why the girl was not transferred to a hospital after multiple instances in which she and her mother sought medical attention. The CBP's Office of Professional Responsibility, which is probing the death, released a statement confirming that Border Patrol officials and medical personnel contracted by the agency failed — and in some cases, declined — to transfer the girl to a hospital, despite concerns raised by her mother.
