Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed two bills into law that prohibit doctors from providing gender-affirming care to transgender minors and prevent transgender students from using school bathrooms that align with their gender identity. The bills take effect immediately, although doctors will have six months to cease gender-affirming care for their patients under 18. Civil rights and LGBTQ advocacy groups, medical professionals, and Democrats condemned the law, while Republican supporters argued that people under 18 aren't mature enough to fully comprehend the potential consequences of medically transitioning.
