Vice President Kamala Harris mistakenly referred to the FDA as the Federal Drug Administration in an interview about abortion rights, where she discussed the ongoing court battle over the FDA's approval of the abortion pill mifepristone. A US district judge in Texas recently imposed a nationwide ban on the drug, but the Supreme Court has blocked the decision while the case is being heard. Mifepristone was approved by the FDA in 2000 and is often used with a second drug to end pregnancies without surgery. Roughly half of legal abortions in the US are medication abortions.
