Kansas approves transgender bathroom bill, veto anticipated.

The Kansas Legislature has passed a bill that would prohibit transgender people from using public bathrooms or changing their name or gender on their driver’s license. The bill defines “sex” as “either male or female, at birth,” which would legally erase transgender people and deny recognition to non-binary, gender fluid and gender non-conforming people. The bill is expected to be vetoed by Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly, but the GOP-controlled Legislature has a two-thirds majority that could override the veto. The bill is one of several hundred measures aimed at rolling back LGBTQ rights pursued by Republicans this year across the United States.
