Legal and Political Turmoil Surrounds Migrant Flights from Florida

California Governor Gavin Newsom is considering legal charges against Florida officials over two recent flights of migrants sent from there, with the possibility of kidnapping charges being filed. Newsom rejected Florida's insistence that the migrants all traveled voluntarily and called Florida Governor Ron DeSantis a "small, pathetic man." California Attorney General Rob Bonta said that Florida appeared to be responsible for the flights and that they might be instances of "state-sanctioned kidnapping." DeSantis is one of a few Republican governors who have sent migrants arriving in their states to Democratic-run cities by plane or bus to protest federal immigration policies on the U.S.-Mexico border.
