Louisiana lawmakers pass controversial bills targeting LGBTQ+ community.

The Louisiana Senate has passed a bill to ban gender-affirming healthcare for transgender minors, despite being defeated by a GOP-controlled state Senate committee last month. The bill seeks to bar healthcare providers from administering gender-affirming medical care to patients under 18, under the threat of having their professional licenses revoked. The bill now heads back to the GOP-controlled House, where it is expected to pass, and then to Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, who has said he opposes legislation that targets the transgender community, as well as the LGBTQ community more broadly.
