Mamdani Extends NYC Pied-a-Terre Tax Exemption Deadline

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani has pushed the exemption deadline for the pied-a-terre tax to Sept. 18, giving homeowners more time to prove their primary residence after a city list of 900,000 properties caused confusion about who is subject to the charge. The DOF had sent surcharge notices to about 17,000 owners, while the tax—targeting non-primary residences over $5 million (with condos/co-ops at $1 million+)—will apply in the 2026-27 and 2027-28 years.
