Michigan's Red Flag Gun Law Signed Despite Sheriff Pushback

Despite pushback from some Michigan sheriffs on the state's new red flag gun laws, law enforcement officers are required to carry out extreme risk protection orders granted by a judge. Failure to comply could result in fines or even jail time for officers held in contempt of court. While some counties have declared themselves Second Amendment sanctuaries, officers from other agencies could still enforce the orders. The new law allows for a person to file an extreme risk protection order against another adult in any Michigan county, with a minor requiring an order to be filed where the petitioner or respondent lives.
