Missouri Governor Signs Controversial Bills Targeting Transgender Youth.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson signed two bills into law to protect female sports and Missouri children from gender transition surgeries and treatment. SB 39 prohibits biological male students from participating in sports teams designated for biological females, while SB 49 establishes the Missouri SAFE Act, which prohibits health care providers from performing gender transition surgeries or prescribing hormones or drugs for gender transition to Missouri children under 18. The SAFE Act also bars MO HealthNet from providing payment for gender transition procedures. The governor also signed several other bills into law.
