California Governor Gavin Newsom announced plans to accelerate the construction of $180 billion worth of infrastructure for transportation, water, green energy, and broadband internet over the next decade by cutting red tape and slashing the time opponents can fight the government in court. The infrastructure investments, using federal and state funds, would create more than 400,000 jobs and assist the state in achieving its climate-protection goals. However, the plan drew immediate blowback, including from the Sierra Club, which said they wouldn’t solve California’s persistent water-management issues.
