"Newsom's Proposed 28th Amendment Sparks Gun Rights Debate"

California Governor Gavin Newsom has proposed a new 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution that would restrict access to guns in all 50 states. The amendment would raise the minimum age for buying a firearm to 21, mandate universal background checks, require a reasonable waiting period for gun purchases, and bar civilian purchase of assault rifles. However, creating a new amendment to the Constitution would be an uphill battle, as Newsom would need two-thirds of states to propose the same amendment, which would trigger a constitutional convention where three-fourths of states would have to vote “yes” for it to pass.
