NJ Mayor Denied White House Eid Celebration

The longest-serving Muslim mayor in New Jersey, Mohamed Khairullah, was disinvited from an annual Eid al-Fitr celebration at the White House after being denied security clearance by the Secret Service. Khairullah, who has served as mayor for over 17 years, said he was stunned and disappointed by the incident, which he believes is due to his name. Civil liberties and anti-discrimination organizations have previously called on the Biden administration to suspend the dissemination of two watchlists, the Terrorist Screening Database and No Fly List, which contain about 1.5 million names, many of which are Arabic and Muslim.
