North Carolina Republicans have passed a bill to ban abortions after 12 weeks of pregnancy, which would significantly narrow the window for legal abortions in the state. The bill includes exceptions for rape and incest through 20 weeks, lethal fetal anomalies through 24 weeks, and a general exception for the life of the mother. Governor Roy Cooper has said he will veto the bill, but Republicans hold veto-proof supermajorities in both chambers. The bill also includes numerous other restrictions that would make abortion significantly more difficult to access.
