McCurtain county commissioner Mark Jennings has resigned after being caught on tape discussing killing reporters and lynching Black people. The recording also included officials with the McCurtain county sheriff’s office. The comments have sparked outrage and protests in the city of Idabel, the county seat. The Oklahoma state bureau of investigation is reviewing the matter at the governor's request. The recording was made by a local newspaper publisher who suspected the group was continuing to conduct local government business after the meeting had ended, in violation of the state’s open meeting laws.
