Oprah Winfrey considered as potential replacement for Sen. Feinstein in California Senate.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has reportedly considered appointing Oprah Winfrey to replace Senator Dianne Feinstein if her seat becomes vacant due to health concerns. Newsom had promised to appoint a Black woman to Feinstein's post if her seat became vacant. Placing a celebrity in the seat could also help Newsom avoid picking favorites among actual declared senate candidates. Feinstein has said that she is not planning to step down from her position before her term ends in 2025.
