Public Opinion Shifts: Americans Support Supreme Court's Decision on Race in College Admissions

A majority of Americans (52%) approve of the recent Supreme Court ruling that restricts the use of race as a factor in college admissions, according to an ABC News/Ipsos poll. However, the country remains divided on other high-profile rulings, and there is a growing perception that the court is driven more by politics than the law. Republicans and independents are more likely to support the ruling, while Democrats are less supportive. There are also significant divisions among racial groups, with white and Asian individuals more likely to approve of the decision compared to Black and Hispanic individuals. Additionally, the poll found that Americans are less likely to believe that Black and Hispanic students have a fair chance of getting into their desired colleges compared to white and Asian students. The poll also revealed mixed opinions on the Supreme Court's decision to strike down President Joe Biden's student loan forgiveness program and a near-even split on the ruling regarding whether creative businesses can refuse to serve LGBTQ+ customers.
