Mexican cartels, collectively the country's fifth-largest employer, are being blamed for flooding fentanyl into the US, resulting in over 200,000 American deaths since 2020. Some Republican presidential candidates, including Ron DeSantis, have expressed support for using lethal US military force to combat the cartels if elected.
