"Shared revenue bill in jeopardy as Republican rift deepens"

A bill aimed at increasing state funding for local governments in Wisconsin is in jeopardy due to a disagreement between the state Senate and Assembly over a provision requiring Milwaukee officials to get voter approval before raising sales taxes. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said his caucus was "done negotiating" on the bill, while Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu said his caucus would likely not include the referendum measure in a bill they pass. Milwaukee officials and Governor Tony Evers support the referendum provision, but Vos said it could "kill the bill."
