Tennessee House approves limited abortion exemptions bill.

The Tennessee House has passed a bill that adds a narrow exemption to the state's strict abortion ban, allowing doctors to use "reasonable medical judgment" when determining if an abortion is necessary to prevent the death of a pregnant patient or to spare her from the irreversible, severe impairment of a major bodily function. The bill does not include exceptions for rape and incest. Democrats and medical experts have raised concerns that the bill does not go far enough to protect doctors and pregnant patients. The bill must now go to the Senate before it can head to Republican Gov. Bill Lee's desk for his signature.
