California's reparations task force has approved recommendations for financial payouts to compensate Black residents for historical discrimination in areas such as voting, housing, education, disproportionate policing and incarceration, and others. CalMatters has created a calculator to help residents estimate how much they could individually receive under the proposal, which could potentially total hundreds of billions of dollars. A new state agency would need to be established to distribute funds and determine eligibility.
