US Implements New Sanctions to Combat Fentanyl Trafficking

The White House has announced new sanctions to combat the fentanyl crisis, targeting drug traffickers and their access to the US financial system. The US will also build a global coalition to combat the illicit synthetic drug trade. The move comes as Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and members of his security cabinet plan to meet with US officials this week about fentanyl and arms trafficking. The push to counter drug traffickers also coincides with numerous lawmakers’ critiques that the Biden administration has not done enough to stem the tide of drugs flowing from Mexico.
