US Rep. Mike Quigley Breaks Ranks as Lone House Democrat Opposing Stopgap Bill

Mike Quigley of Chicago was the sole House Democrat to vote against a stopgap funding bill to avert a government shutdown, citing its lack of funding for Ukraine in its fight against Russia. The bill passed with bipartisan support, but Quigley criticized Republicans who have been critical of increased U.S. aid to Ukraine, calling the bill a victory for Putin. Quigley, co-chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, emphasized that protecting Ukraine is in the national interest and expressed concerns about future funding agreements. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy did not commit to bringing a separate Ukraine aid bill to the floor.
