US Sanctions Maduro Allies for Post-Election Repression in Venezuela

The U.S. Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control has sanctioned 21 Venezuelan officials aligned with President Nicolas Maduro for their roles in repressing civil society following the disputed July 28 presidential election. These sanctions, under Executive Order 13692, target individuals from various Venezuelan security and government agencies who have been involved in violent crackdowns on opposition supporters and protests. Concurrently, the U.S. State Department is imposing visa restrictions on nearly 2,000 individuals linked to undermining democracy and human rights in Venezuela.
