Utah GOP Rep. Chris Stewart Resigns from Congress Due to Personal Reasons

With the upcoming vacancy in Utah’s 2nd Congressional District following Rep. Chris Stewart’s resignation, several current officeholders, former public officeholders, and political rookies are considering running for the seat. The district is heavily Republican, but surprises can happen in special elections. At least three Democrats are thinking about taking a shot at the seat, but it’s much more likely than not that the GOP will retain control. The official date of Stewart’s resignation and the special election to pick his replacement have yet to be announced.
