Uvalde Poll Shows Support for Gun Control Measures

A new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll shows that the highest percentage of Americans in a decade believe that curbing gun violence is more important than protecting gun rights. However, there is little consensus on what to do about gun violence, with mixed views on semi-automatic, assault-style weapons and other measures such as mental health screenings and red-flag laws. While a significant majority feels the answer to mass shootings is stricter gun laws, the percentage believing the solution is more people needing to carry guns has jumped 10 points in the last four years. Two-thirds of Republicans side with protecting gun rights.
