Security Concerns Plague California's Capitol

The California Highway Patrol ordered the evacuation and lockdown of the state Capitol due to a "credible threat" but has yet to respond to follow-up questions regarding safety protocols and procedures. Another law enforcement agency confirmed the threats were linked to a shooting suspect, Jackson Pinney, who was apprehended after a day-long manhunt. Pinney has a criminal history and is expected to face charges. The Capitol Protection Section's primary mission is to provide law enforcement and safety services and security for the state capitol building, grounds, and swing space. The secretary of the Senate and the chief administrative officer of the Assembly released a joint statement expressing appreciation for law enforcement's protection and stating that additional security efforts will be re-examined.
