James Meredith, Civil Rights Icon, Falls During 90th Birthday Celebration

Civil rights icon James Meredith fell at an event marking his 90th birthday outside the Mississippi Capitol, but suffered no visible injuries and was resting comfortably at home later. Meredith was the first Black student to enroll at the University of Mississippi in 1962 and was shot and wounded in 1966 while promoting Black voting rights.
