Ten years ago, the Boston Bruins played their first home game after the Boston Marathon bombings, serving as a unifying force for a city in need of a lift. Despite the presence of bomb-sniffing dogs, armed servicemen, and metal detectors, close to 18,000 fans showed up in search of some much-needed normalcy. The game was postponed two days after the bombings, and the NHL opted to go ahead with the Bruins' home game against the Sabres on April 17. Even though the Bruins ultimately fell to the Sabres in a shootout, 3-2, the final score etched onto the Garden video board meant little in the grand scheme of things.
