Tech Giants Unite to Challenge Utah's App Restrictions for Minors

A trade group representing major tech companies, including TikTok, Meta (formerly Facebook and Instagram), and X (formerly Twitter), has filed a federal lawsuit against Utah over its laws requiring parental consent for minors to use social media apps and imposing a curfew on app usage. The trade group argues that the laws are unconstitutional, restrict access to public content, compromise data security, and undermine parental rights. The laws, set to take effect on March 1, 2024, aim to protect children from targeted advertisements and addictive features. The lawsuit seeks to halt the laws from being implemented.
