Federal funding allocated to eliminate dangerous railroad crossings across the US.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration has awarded $41,766,038 to Alabama for railroad crossing elimination on Shelby County Highway 52 in Pelham. The project aims to increase safety and mobility, along with addressing a growing problem with blocked crossings. The project in total costs approximately $52,410,313, with additional funding from the cities of Pelham and Helena, along with Shelby County and CSX. The new bridge is set to increase capacity to five lanes, with a multi-use path to accommodate cyclists and pedestrians.
