LaGuardia runway collision leaves two pilots dead as fire truck crosses path

Two pilots aboard an Air Canada Express CRJ 900 were killed when their plane collided with a fire-rescue vehicle on a LaGuardia runway. Forty-one people were hospitalized (39 from the aircraft, 2 firefighters). LaGuardia was closed and the FAA issued a ground stop. The NTSB launched a go-team to investigate possible communication breakdowns and whether the air traffic controller was working alone; authorities say there is no foul play suspected.
