Senseless Shootings and Gun Violence Continue to Plague America

Smaller, everyday incidents of gun violence, rather than mass shootings, account for a majority of firearms deaths and injuries in the US. An average of 50 people die each day in the United States from non-suicide gun incidents, and roughly 100 are injured. Black people die due to firearms at higher rates than any other racial or ethnic group in the US. The shootings take place against a backdrop of increasingly polarised debates over access to and use of guns in the United States. As of 20 April 2023, 12,719 people have died so far this year in gun violence incidents.
